The People and Culture of Annapurna Circuit Trek

 

This trip allows travelers to experience the breathtaking regional culture of Gurung and the Tibetan way of life that is strongly ingrained in the Mustang region. Most mountain people groups are Buddhist (Bon Po) in their religion, and Gurung and Tibetan are the main attractions for trekkers along the journey.

Annapurna Circuit Trip Starting Point: Besishar

 

Annapurna Circuit Trek 13 Days Itinerary begins at Besishar after the enjoyable drive from the capital city. We trail towards Bhulbhule, Bhaun Danda, Jagat, Chmaje, Tal, Dharapani, Danaque, and Pisang, following the Marsyangdi River. We will travel to Manang Village. We stayed one night for acclimatization to the highest point of the main difficult level passes of Thorong La. Our journey continues to Yak Kharka and High Camp.

 

Highest Pass of Thorong La (5416 meters/17,769 ft)

 

From the High Camp, we start our journey early in the morning to Thorong La Pass (5416 meters). When we reach the top, we spend a few hours taking pictures of the mountains and the Thorong La Pass board. After succeeding in our journey, we trek down to continue to Muktinath. It is a holy site for Buddhist and Hindu sanctuaries, so we explore there. We continue trekking to Jomsom Muktinath and then drive to Tatopani, Pokhara.

After breakfast, we will take a local bus to Besishar. The route to the valley follows the beautiful Trishuli River. When we reach Dumre, we will head north to the Besishar, situated on the way Mararsyandi Valley River. Throughout the ride, we will see the delightful scenery of terrace farm villages and the sight of the amazing; white snow-capped mountain peaks of the Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and Annapurna ranges. Besishar has a TIMS ( Trekking Information Management System) checkpoint where we will register our TIMS, then we will explore the City, and back to the hotel, we will stay overnight at the Lodge.

Today will be our first day's journey. We will walk along the Marsyangdi River and pass the delightful villages of Khudi, Bulbule, Nadi, and Bahun Danda. While we walk on the way. It's a chance to view the Lamjung Himal and Himalchuli Himal. We will have a lunch break at Nadi village. Then, we continue to reach Bahun Danda. We will stay overnight at the Lodge.

After breakfast, We will trek, continue descending, pass through the beautiful rice terrace field farms, and cross the suspension bridge. We continue; the narrow trail reach; to Syanje Village. This village has waterfalls, Rivers, and landscapes. We will take a few hours there and take a picture, then after the trek, continue along the riverside to reach Jagat Village. It is a beautiful place. Where we will have a delicious lunch break. After finishing our lunch. We will continue along the river and before the Chamje Village. We will be able to see the magical waterfalls there; we will spend a few hours there taking a tea break, heading to Chamje Village, and staying overnight at the Lodge.

After a delicious breakfast, we begin our Annapurna Circuit trek. Along the Marsyangdi River, we will head to the old trekking trail on the narrow path and reach Tal village. This village is also one of the most beautiful places where we can enjoy local culture and nature. After we continue, and cross the suspension bridge, join the road. We will follow the delightful village of Dharapani is the main junction of trekkers from the Annapurna Circuit Trek and Manaslu Circuit Trek. This village has ACAP and TiMS Card Checkpoints. We will do that after we trek continue to ascend reach; to Bargar and Danaque. We will stay overnight at the Lodge.

Today, we will follow the trail through the ramble on the pine, rhododendron, and oak-dense forest. From here, we will ascend to reach the Tamang village. This village is a clean place. Where we will be able to catch the delightful view of Mt. Manaslu Himal after we trek and continue to walk on the pine forest to reach Koto village. We will check our TIMS card and ACAP permit, thereby the Nepali Police. From Koto village, we have to walk 10 to 15 minutes to reach Chame Village. This village has a beautiful natural Hot Spring there. We will go and take a bath to relax.

Today, we walk through a steep and narrow mid-valley to have the first view of a huge walk of rock that is measured as sacred to the local people. Buddhist Stupa, mani walls with massive views of Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, Pisang Peak, and many more mountains.

From the Pisang, we will trek through the upper trail. Why we chose the upper route because this trail offers astonishing views of Annapurna II, III, IV, Pisang Peak, Gangapurna, Tilicho, and Chulu Peak. As we head ascending. We will have a chance to explore the ancient Monastery, Stupa, and Mani walls on the way. The trekking trail will go through Geru, Nawal, and Braga. Where we will visit the largest monastery in the Annapurna region. After, we continue to Manang village. We will stay overnight at the Lodge.

Today will be more exciting. After our delicious breakfast, we will be ready to hike Gangaurna Lake and Viewpoint. If the blue sky. We can wash clothes and dry them. This day will be fantastic.

Today, we will head to Yak Kharka. First, we will pass through the beautiful village of Old Manang (Tanki Manang). After, we will pass the Buddhist mani walls on the way. We will ascend and cross the suspension bridge. We continue to Yak Kharka. We will stay overnight at the Lodge.

After the delicious breakfast, we will start our journey; we head to Thorong Phedi and High Camp. We climb to a ridge and Head down across the suspension or wood bridge. After climbing up the mountain trail, we follow a narrow trail across a slope and descend to Phedi. Again, we will ascend High Camp. We will stay overnight at the Lodge.

Today is one of the Hardest and most exciting parts of the journey. We will be starting in the early morning. We ascend from the high camp to Thorong La is the world's highest pass. It will take around ¾ hours before we reach the top. We will take a Group picture with the background of Thorong La Pass Board and scenic mountain views. From the top, we will catch the delightful views of Thorong Peak, Dhaulagiri, Tukche Peak, and many more white snow-capped mountains. We will enjoy and relax with nature. After that, we continue to descend and reach Phedi. We will have a lunch break there. Then, we continue downhill, cross the suspension bridge, and reach Muktinath. We will stay overnight at the Lodge.

Before breakfast, we will go to visit the Muktinath temple. We can see the Buddhist and Hindu temples there. Muktinath Temple is one of the most famous for Hindus and Buddhists. When we enter the temple. After that, we will explore the ancient Buddhist monastery and Hindu Temple. We will see the prayer for God. After that, visit the temple. We return to the hotel, and we will have breakfast. We trek and continue downhill Passing the delightful villages of Jharkot, Kagbeni and Ekle Bhatti on the way. Today will be more exciting, and explore the gigantic dry valley with white snow-capped mountains. As well as we follow the Kali Gandaki River. Where we can find the stone of Shaligram, and the trek continues to Jomsom.

After breakfast, we will take a local bus from Jomsom to Pokhara. The trekking route follows along the Kali Gandaki River side descent. We pass the delightful villages of Marpha, Tukche, Lete, Ghasa, and Tatopani, Beni. From Beni to Pokhara, we will drive on Peach Road and reach Pokhara Valley. Again, change to Bus to Kathmandu.

Accommodation during the Annapurna Circuit Trek

Our guides will book the best teahouses/lodges during the trek, and you will get basic accommodation and a comfortable room. The rooms will be cozy and shared between two trekkers. You can expect a clean wooden bed with a blanket, pillows, a mattress, and a bed cover.

Foods

The food options are decent along the Annapurna route. You will get various delicious food items, including Nepali, Chinese, European, and Indian dishes, available on the menu. Dal Bhat is a popular food in Nepal. However, there are several food options.

Breakfast

Such as French toast with Jam, Honey, and Butter, Muesli, Oatmeal, Corn Flakes, Oat porridge, Pancake, Gurung Bread, Tibetan Bread, Tsampa Porridge, Chapatti, and fried eggs.

  • Hot Shower: At most teahouses, you will get a hot shower by Gas or Solar. However, you must pay some extra small fees, around 200 to 400 NPR.

 

  • Wi-Fi: At Lodges/Teahouses, you'll get Wi-Fi, but sometimes it does not work, or the signal might not be strong.

 

  • NTC Sim Card: During the trek route at low altitude, you will get the NTC signal services, where you can use the data pack and contact family and friends. However, you have to buy the local NTC SIM card in Kathmandu.

 

  • Camera Battery and Mobile Charging: Mostly at lodges, they will provide you with charging ports with electricity or solar power. But you should pay some additional costaround 200 to 300 NPR.

 

  • Tea and Coffee: You'll get various tea and coffee items, lemon tea, Ginger lemon Honey tea, black tea, Milk tea, green tea, etc.

 

  • Mineral Water and Boiled Water: Along the trek, you'll get water from taps and rivers. But we do not recommend drinking the water without treatment. We encourage you to use the purification tablet or filtering pump. After that, you can drink water. Also, you will get a bottle of water and boiled water; the cost might be 300 to 500 NPR per liter.

Due to the high elevation area, you’ll need items such as a light wool jacket, a down jacket, a T-shirt, pants, a thick wool hat, a sun hat, clothes that are comfortable for walking uphill and downhill, a raincoat for rainy weather, hiking boots, thick socks, etc.

Best time to visit the Annapurna Circuit Trek

High altitudes on the Annapurna Circuit reach around 5416m, according to the climate information and considering the local weather. The spring and autumn seasons are the most favorable times for the Annapurna Circuit due to their stable temperatures. During the spring, the forests are adorned with various types of rhododendrons.

Spring (March, April, and May)

Spring begins in March and ends in May. It is the ideal season to trek the Annapurna Circuit. The attractiveness of the spring season is the blooming of rhododendrons and other flowers in the mountain regions. The weather conditions and climate are perfect for the trekkers to delight in the whole area of Nepal. During the spring season, the skies will be clear, allowing you to see the stunning mountain vistas.

 

It is the best trekking season for those who regularly plan to trek with their family group and loved ones. The Kids also love the spring season due to the spirited environment and the opportunity to witness the diverse flowers, animals, and birds.

Autumn (September, October, and November)

Autumn is another good time to trek the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal. The weather is perfect for a trip with mild temperatures and views of the entire Himalaya range. The trekking route is clean and fresh after the rain, and the forests are breathtaking as the leaves on the trees change color. During the days at higher altitudes, it is not cold. Physical and mental preparation for the Annapurna Circuit

If you want to trek the Annapurna Circuit, you should have physical and mental preparation for the Annapurna Circuit trek. After that, you can complete this trip.

Physical Preparation

Other treks in Nepal, such as Annapurna Base Camp, Everest Base Camp, and Langtang Valley Trek, are quite physically hard. The Annapurna Circuit Trek is quite physically demanding. The duration of the Annapurna Circuit trek is 12 to 14 days, which requires completion. You will trek an average of 6 to 7 hours a day. Therefore, you can ensure being physically fit by participating in cardiovascular exercises before the trip. This exercise will assist you with your core and strength.

Mental Preparation

Just like physical difficulty, the high-elevation trekking route also leads to mental preparation. When you are trekking in rural areas, and where there is a language barrier, sometimes travelers face mental failure. Ensure you are trekking with a positive mental attitude and assurance. You should always expect that the trek will not be easy, but the rewards will be pretty satisfying. You can participate in yoga and meditation to improve your mental preparation.

Travel Insurance

You need travel insurance for the Annapurna Circuit trek for safety and security. It is a challenging trek through a hidden valley, with potential risks including high-altitude sickness and injuries. In case of emergency, we must use air evacuation, and travel insurance is the only way to get you a speedy response from the rescue team. Therefore, ensure your travel insurance covers helicopter rescue and medical treatment.

Nepal Visa Fee Cost

If you are planning to do Nepal trekking, you need a travel Visa to enter Nepal. Nepal visas are available at your country's Nepal embassy, or you can get an on-arrival visa at Tribhuvan International Airport. However, you need an original passport with at least six months of validity, passport-size photos, and a visa fee. ATM and Bank

Along the trekking route, there are no ATM or Bank facilities. You can exchange money in Kathmandu or withdraw enough money to use for personal expenses during the trip.

How many days are needed to complete the Annapurna Circuit trek?

It all depends on you. If you want to visit the world’s highest lake, Tilicho Lake (4919m), Tato Pani, and Ghorepani Poon Hill (3210m), it takes 20 days. If you choose not to visit any of them and only cross Thorong La, it takes 13 days. You can take a flight or bus from Jomsom to return to Pokhara.

Tipping is usually given. When guests are satisfied with the services provided by guides and porters. It is apparent that the guests are content with their assistance. In Nepali society, tipping is accepted as a symbol of guest happiness.

I just finish 12 days walking the Annapurna Circuit with my guide Bashanta. He was a really good guide, very friendly and helpful throughout the whole trip. I could recommend him higher.
