The Manaslu trek is surrounded by Nepal’s most underrated treks in the Gorkha District. This trip is going to be a life-challenging unforgettable memory. However, trekking to the hidden valley Himalayas of Nepal also comes with many challenges and one of such difficulties is getting your legal documents ready. Before coming to Nepal, you must know that trekking in diverse parts of Nepal requires different permits. We briefly described the Manaslu trek permits below.

 

Thus, with your passport and visa, you need to issue a special permit. This permit covers the Manaslu and Annapurna. However, the permit types required such as Special Manaslu Permit, MCAP, and ACAP permit are needed.

 

The Manaslu trekking was opened for international travelers in 1991 A.D. After that, the Nepal Government listed the Tsum valley and the Manaslu region as restricted of Nepal. Then, a solo trekker cannot hike to Manaslu and Tsum Valley.

 

The Manaslu permit includes three types of documents restricted Manaslu permit, MCAP (Manaslu Conservation Area Project) permit, and ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project) permit.

 

How do I get the Manaslu Permit?

 

To get the Manaslu trekking permit, trekkers must join a local travel company and also be Government registered trained licensed holder guides. However, if you want to go on a Manaslu or Tsum Valley trek, you need a group minimum of two trekkers to get these Manaslu permits. So, this is essential information before heading into the Manaslu region trekking.

 

Requirements of Nepal Visa:

 

Before getting your Manaslu permit, trekkers must issue a travel visa to Nepal. A visa is upon arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport. If you are an Indian trekker then there is no need to issue a visa, it is free for Indian citizens.

 

For other countries, a visa fee costs:

 

30USD – 15 Days

50USD – 30 Days

125USD – 90 Days

 

Some Tips for Manaslu Region Trekking:

 

  • No allowed to do this trek solo.
  • The minimum group size needed to issue the permit is two trekkers needed.
  • Trekkers must join with Travel Company.
  • Trekkers must hire a guide, who has a trekking guide license.
  • You must respect the local culture and customs.

 

How to apply for the Manaslu Restricted permit?

  • Manaslu Restricted Permit.

As we mentioned previously, the Manaslu region is in a restricted area of Nepal. The Manaslu restricted area permit must be issued to enter Jagat, Phlim, Namrung, and Sama Gaun. Further than Sama Gaun, you will need an entry permit from ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project).

  • MCAP (Manaslu Conservation Area Project) Permit:

The Manaslu region lies inside the Manaslu Conservation Area.  The Manaslu Conservation area starts at Jagat and the MCAP cost goes towards managing the wildlife in the area. The Nepal Government also tracks trekkers’ activity and groups within the conservation area to ensure safety in the remote park.  

  • ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project) Permit:

After crossing the Larke La 5106 meters pass, we will trek to Bimtang and Dharapani, and we will trek to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP). Even though we will stay inside the Annapurna only for a few days, the Annapurna permit is mandatory for trekkers who are going to cross the Dharapani and Besishar Checkpoint.

 

Manaslu Permit Cost:

 

The Manaslu permit cost must be paid in dollars, Euros, or Nepalese NPR equivalent to the Euro or Dollar. The Manaslu trek permit cost is 100 USD for autumn and spring is 75 USD.  This permit cost covers the seven days between Jagat and Samagaun. If you want to stay more days, you should be paid 15 USD per head each day.

 

MCAP (Manaslu Conservation Area Project) Permit:

 

  • Rs 3000 per head for (foreign Countries).
  • RS 1500 per head for (SAARC Countries).

 

ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project) permit:

 

  • Rs 3000 per Person for (foreign Countries).
  • Rs 1500 per person for (SAARC Countries).

Tsum Valley Permit Cost:

 

If you are planning to travel to Tsum Valley or Tsum Valley Manaslu trek, you should be issued another Chum Valley area permit. This permit cost is 40 USD per person one week for during the autumn and spring seasons cost is 30 USD per person for one week and 7 USD per person per day beyond the first week.

To get the permits, what should I need to send the documents to your travel company?

 

  • Photocopy of Passport with at least six months valid.
  • Passport-size photos are required for the MCAP and ACAP permit.
  • Nepal Visa with a stamp.
  • Travel insurance.

 

Can I trek without the Manaslu permit and Guide?

 

No, it is not possible to trek without the Manaslu permit and Guidecompulsorry to hire a guide for this region trekking. The Nepal – Government is strict about restricting the number of trekkers to Manaslu. This means they will make sure that only people with permits enter the region. There are checkpoints of Police and Army forces in this area and show your permit there.
